Nadezhda's work has been among the most popular of all the artists producing
matryoshki for many, many years. All serious collectors are familiar with her
dolls, which always feature sad-eyed children and shades of green and lavender.
Nadezhda explains that she was going through a difficult time in her life when
she developed the look of the children, explaining it was almost impossible to
work as an artist in the USSR. Because she loved working as an artist, she took
a job as an evening cleaning lady so she could work during the day on the art
she loved. |
